Directions are amusing

Since the time I was a kid I had an enmity. That with the directions!

• I can still remember the day my mum taught me right and left. I used to sit on a specific chair in the dining room back at home for eating and studying both because I could get sunshine, cool breeze and constant distraction from all sides [ The room is in middle of the house and people cross it every time they move from one room to another]. Although it is said that concentration needs a certain amount of silence but I don't believe in it. Until and unless I hear a lot of buzz around me, I cannot learn anything. Well my mum suggested that the hand which I was not utilizing to eat was left alone so its my left hand. The hand which I was using to do all the right things like writing, eating etc was the right hand. I learnt it instantly but every time I had to remember it, I would imagine myself sitting on that chair and then bulb would light up! Unbelievably, this I had to do till another such reference occurred.
• It was in Std. 9th or 10th, I don't clearly remember. Our school had a system wherein Prefects would lead a March past. It was OK till I was a vice-captain of my house [ Red house] in 8Th because then the captain would be foremost and I had only to imitate while shouting out aloud turn left or turn right! Trouble occurred while I became a captain and in the subsequent year the head girl of the school. Giving commands was a tough task because if you didn't knew a direction how could you lead a parade of more than 100 people? Anyways it was sorted out and directions were easier to know. But for the next many years I had to remember that school playground every time I had to remember right or left.
• Growing up further it was always difficult to locate a new address. Every street, each road in a metropolis like Delhi seemed same. It appeared as if same birds were sitting on every tree branch that too looked alike.
• Somewhere I had heard that up is north, down is south , left is west, right is east and I could connect it with map of India too. north is J&K, south is Kerala, T.N , west is mumbai/Gujarat, east is Arunachal Pradesh, 7 states. Then what the hell is north east, south west etc? Damn confusing these people are I tell you!
• Some people say that girls are weak in Directions and maths. But I have seen Females with extra ordinary photogenic memory. They wouldn't forget the route they have even once tread upon.
• By the way, I am not as dumb as it is showcased here. I can remember things - howsoever unnecessary they may be. Like I can remember dates and years very well. My history was strong enough. I like remembering names too. I could remember many names from the telephone directory and the attendance list in school and college was a point of interest to me. I can also remember and recognize faces very well. Books name and contents also register themselves deeply in my mind and if I like a music and its lyrics, I can memorize it for a long time hence. Not to mention events and related chronology or subsequent people involved. Also I don't forget anything wrong that occurred to me ever. Although I like to paint up that I've forgotten all inadequacies; but I don't do it actually.
• Now after writing this deep dark secret, I know the way out of it. May be I need to try and forget unnecessary details. Even a computer memory needs disk De-fragmentation!
