De-learning

I went to Amity university today with Papa, who was invited as the keynote speaker in a conference for IFS officers concerning Forest-tribal development. Although I wasn't invited at all, but I went with him because, firstly, I wanted to while away some of my free time, secondly,I'm genuinely interested in such thought provoking incidents, third, I wanted to attend 2nd lecture of Papa [he is a professor of physics in ranchi university and works for an NGO for the last 20-24 years,that too selflessly, that honesty and dedication is something worth learning!] . Once while in I.Sc. he gave Orientation lecture in physics department [He avoided teaching and evaluating me during that time,and trusted his colleagues more] . People wont believe its only 2nd time I was hearing him.
- In a room full of mighty IFS officers, the previous speaker to Papa was a management expert, and he was trying to "motivate" the already super-enthusiastic lot! Ridiculous, secondly, some of the officers had a very bad impression of NGO's. they said 89% of the NGO are corrupt and their organization is like a source of minting money.
-I felt so bad! So bad to hear this, on account of the fact, how can they under-estimate and generalize such big facts! Papa could have earned a lot and be cosy and comfortable in some metropolis, but instead he chose to work for this NGO and built this catalytic cordon support group,in lieu he has invested 29 years of his service and prime time of his life!With sole objective of social help and nothing else!
-During the tea time I expressed my anguish and told papa that I was so irritated hearing them! they have such a wrong impression! Government officials are being 'paid' to do the social service job. If they don't do their job properly, or they don't have access to poor people's problems than its they who are inefficient and incapable, not the NGO people who have taken up the job as a "choice"! If 89% were corrupt, then what did Government officials do to prohibit penetration of that corruption? Why ain't they motivated enough? How can they pose questions on others when they have no answer for their own problems!
- Papa cooled me down. He just said , don't just hustle and boil over. Wait and watch for my lecture!
- As he began, he was allotted 1 hr to finish off, It was so good to hear him, everything he said was so well known-I've been hearing this since my childhood!
-He mentioned a word called de-learning ,wherein, already too well educated and white collared people were made to realise their basics and roots and then then given new knowledge, its like emptying the vessel to fill fresh water! great concept!
-Initially , I prayed [O god! someone please remove that microphone-mike from there -papa's voice is more than enough to make him heard in a crowd of 100,- well that was something hilarious but true!]. For the next 1 hour every one was spellbound!
-then on and on went everything....lets not delve deeper, But officers gradually started taking interest . The man who had criticized NGOs the most literally walked up to us and wanted to know how to start something of the sort in west Rajasthan . During lunch hour, the Amity director- surprising to know that he had only started botany department in Papa's clg-small world it is, took special care of us. Everyone individually came up and talked to papa.
- Lunch was also sumptuous and was accompanied with yumm kulfi! :)
-Then we returned back, But I had seldom realized till now, I am a daughter of such a dynamic,charismatic and mass motivator person! Really proud of that! Wow! I mean I knew it, but never took it so seriously!
-Convictions change, but so quickly, I had never anticipated. I'm so charged to do something good and indulging now. Thankful for this day of my life!
