I do not like being in news much, yet this is what was published in today's Pioneer:
Young talent Shivangi Shaily makes Naxal-hit Palamu proud
PNS Daltonganj
Leather fashion designing in Naxal-hit Palamu! Incredible it may sound but a young and talented daughter of Palamu, Shivangi Shaily, is committed towards achieving this goal here through women self help groups.Daughter of a physics scholar, Sudhir Prasad Sinha, this budding talent of Palamu declined the offer of a multi-lakh package in Jalandhar of export housing job as Shivangi said she wanted to be in Palamu since ‘ Her district has been painted so black that Palamu is now known for all the wrong reasons’.When asked that fashion is invariably associated with the rich and opulent and what it is to do in this hunger struck Palamu, Shivangi said ‘ It can help change the mind-set of the populace here’. Poor women through self-help groups can be linked to leather accessories. This will generate income for them.A bachelor in fashion designing from as prestigious institute, NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology), New Delhi Shivangi has preferred to live far away from the world of glamour, romance and unreality’.To another question that clothes, garments which are worn on the ramp of any fashion pageant are not in use in daily life, Shivangi said ‘It is true. The clothes on the ramp are not of daily use. But this helps in pacing the man /woman to catch up with time’.At present she is associated with Jharcraft which here in Daltonganj is holding an exhibition cum sale of its products much in tune with the tribal tradition and fashion. The Jharcraft is on in town’s sole plaza of Namdhari brothers. Registrar of the NP university, Prakash Kumar Verma, inaugurated this exhibition. When asked as to how a girl in Salwar Kameez of Palamu who did her Inter Science in a highly congested college GLA decided to go for fashion technology, Shivangi said ‘ My parents encouraged me.’ The fashion technology has boosted her creativity. However her heart goes out to the poor who are ill clothed here.In the early eighties, in Palamu there were four out of ten whose feet were without any wear but today no foot is sans any footwear. Shivangi’s eyes has caught this as she says her leather fashion designing is also about foot wear which she understands faces tough challenges from branded footwear.Shivangi who has done Palamu proud is out to mitigate the sufferings of women. She knows that the road for her dreams to come true is not an easy one.
