NIFT : better known as National Institute of Fashion Technology is a design institute with undergraduate and postgraduate courses running simultaneously. Untill recently it had only 2-3 years long diploma program run at postgraduate level in fashion and accessories design . But now it is a four years full time graduate program alloting B.F.tech degrees to Design and technology students and M.F.Tech and MbA degree at postgraduate level.

At undergraduate level there are :

Fashion and Apparel department further divided into Fashion Design[FD] and Leather Design[LD] ( I'm in this)[;)]) kisi ne pucha nahi but main bata de rahi hoon.This is fully based on garment construction, patterns and details of a garment. Our department also covers acessories part along with hard core garment construction.

Fashion and lifestyle accessories also sometimes refered to as Product design.

Fashion Communication which is similar to mass communication and involves everything theotrical.

Fashion And Textile which is further bifurcated into Textile design [TD] and knitwear design [KD]. Textile has a lot of scope since our clg is backed by ministry of textiles.[;)]. Knitwear design not only includes sweater construction,but all the Streachable garments that one wears come under it.

Fashion Technology students cover everything related with garment industry. In a way they are tought like a garment engineer cum merchandiser.[;)]

At postgraduate level there are management as well as technology courses. Along with some new courses like PG in Design Space has also come up.

There are also some short term continuing education program run parallel to the main stream courses for duration varying from 1 year to 6 months.

Now the question arises that why am I behaving like a brand ambassador of NIFT. [:D] Here I would like to clear that I'd got fade up with people interrogating about my college's whereabouts,as if Fashion and its study is a fun business alltogether. But only few people know what goes into the process to create that fun.!!

All that glitters from far is not at all gold. This industry is glamorous for only those who consume the last ,end part of the tedious blood sucking process draining all our creative energy so that best outcome can be evoked.

BUt, but but, Its not so much dangerous as I was stating. Infact for people who have that creative flair and spark, its a best field so far. Unwanted elements are everywhere in every field. If a person has a flickering attitude and a tendancy to fall into pray, he would soon succumb to the wrong and forbidden path. Infact my parents themselves were also little tensed before letting me enter the field but having confidence on me and relying on the fact that no other profession would suit me, they never objected to anything.
